How to Best Protect Your E-Bike All Year Round

An e-bike is a valuable investment, so it makes sense to take extra good care of it. Whether you use your e-bike every day or only occasionally, the right precautions can save you both money and hassle.
Here are 7 effective tips on how to best protect your e-bike from weather, wear and theft.
1. Use a specially designed e-bike cover
E-bikes have electrical components that do not tolerate moisture and cold as well as traditional bicycles. An e-bike cover is therefore important – especially if your bike is kept outdoors.
✔️ Protects against rain and snow
✔️ Prevents UV damage to the display and plastic parts
✔️ Reduces the risk of surface rust
2. Store the battery correctly
The most expensive component on an e-bike is the battery. Therefore, you should:
- Bring the battery indoors if the bike is kept outside
- Store it at 10–20 °C – never below freezing
- Charge the battery to around 50–60% during long-term storage
- Avoid letting it run completely flat
👉 A battery stored incorrectly can lose capacity and, in the worst case, become defective.
3. Dry your bike after rain and snow
After a wet bike ride, you should:
- Wipe the frame, display and battery area with a soft cloth
- Check connectors and the charging port for moisture
- Lubricate the chain and moving parts to prevent rust
This extends the lifespan of both the bike and the battery.
4. Use a good bike lock – preferably two
E-bikes are targets for theft. We therefore recommend:
- An approved frame lock
- An additional cable lock or folding lock around the frame and a fixed object
- Possibly a GPS tracker
5. Avoid overcharging and cheap chargers
Always use the original charger and follow these tips:
- Do not leave the battery plugged in overnight
- Charge in a dry, fire-safe place
- Do not use non-original chargers – they can damage the battery
6. Servicing and maintenance
An e-bike has both mechanical and electrical parts that require maintenance:
- Have it serviced at least once a year – preferably every 1,500 km due to wear on your brake pads
- Check the brakes, chain and tyres often
- Clean and lubricate the chain regularly – preferably with special chain oil for e-bikes
7. Use a bike garage or storage solution
The best protection is covered storage:
- A bike garage or wall mount protects the bike
- It protects against weather, theft and tipping over
- Perfect for both your home and holiday home
